Between 2005 and 2008, European Commission, through Transport and Energy General Directorate, launched Sustainable Energy Europe programme, an European campaign to promote sustainable approach of energy consumption and production. This campaign contributes to reach EU targets on renewable energies, energy efficiency, "clean" transport and alternative fuels.
Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Environment recently joined this campaign, receiving the status of SEE partner. The partner status is attained after completion an application for the European Commission which describes ongoing projects/ programmes, consistent with the objectives mentioned above. In May 2008, Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Environment submitted three applications, as follows:
- Energy Efficiency through Green Public Procurement
- Improving Air Quality by Renewing Romania’s Car Stock
- Web tool for public information on air quality in Romania www.calitateaer.ro
As these three applications have been accepted, Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Environment is now an official SEE partner. The three projects can be viewed following the
http://www.sustenergy.org, database Partnership section. The best projects, enrolled in the campaign, are being awarded during a ceremony, organised by the European Commission at Brussels.
